In a response to my mounting concern for global environmental issues, my focus has shifted away from direct observation of natural surroundings to imaginary visualizations of nature’s forces.

In the central series of my recent work these imaginary forces manifest as a series of Tornado paintings. Whirlwinds can be seen randomly sweeping up debris and plants. A cluster of flowers at the core of the whirlwind symbolize the perfection of beauty and the mechanics of reproduction. The destructive force and randomness of natural phenomena inspire emotions of awe and helplessness toward the natural world which I express through these visionary paintings.

Each work alludes to a dilemma which confronts mankind today; such as the safe disposal of non-biodegradable waste, the dwindling numbers of native Bees and the effects of pesticides upon the environment. I plan to continue this series to address the dynamic relationship between nature, animal species and the man made environment.

In these water color paintings on paper, I juxtapose two painting techniques at once abstract and detailed. I employ a loose accidental method and a controlled technique, metaphors for the ordered and chaotic forces of our universe.
